Why We Opened

Our Story

Our owner grew up eating Burmese food at home and working in Mandarin kitchens nearby. After moving to the Bay Area, they opened Yangon to bring both traditions to one table in Burlingame.

A Crossroads Cuisine

What is Burmese food?

Myanmar borders India, China, Thailand, and Laos, and Burmese cooking reflects all of them — curries with South Asian spice, Chinese stir-fry technique, and Southeast Asian herbs and heat. Expect fermented and pickled ingredients, crispy fried garlic and shallots, and a balance of sour, salty, spicy, and savory flavors throughout the menu.

New to Burmese food? Most of our guests are too.

Hospitality

A table, always open

Meals in Burma are shared, not eaten alone. We've tried to bring that spirit to our dining room — a space that feels a little special without asking you to dress up, whether you're here for a quiet dinner or a table full of family.
